News & Updates

COVID-19 UPDATE (3/27/20) for our HPA patients and families:

Keep appraised of changes and COVID-19 related information on the front page of our website, where you'll find links to updates on office changes, general information on COVID-19, and instructions for how to complete a virtual visit.

And speaking of virtual visits, we are continuing to switch many sick visits as well as select well visits over to virtual telehealth visits in order to eliminate the need to be seen in-person in the office.

Please note that have instituted the following changes to our scheduling protocols:

1. We are suspending Sunday in-person office visits, though we will still have nurse triage available at all times. We will still be open 8:30 - 12:30 pm on Saturdays for in-person visits.

2. In our Holyoke office, we are continuing to move all well visits to the mornings and seeing only respiratory or fever visits in the afternoons.

3. In our South Hadley office, we are only seeing well visits and sick visits that do not involve cough or fever.

In order to keep our patients and staff as safe and healthy as possible, we've made the following changes in our office workflow:

***We have started a new check-in process for both offices to eliminate the need to wait in our waiting rooms. When you arrive at the office, you will see a phone number posted on the front door. Please TEXT that number that you have arrived and return to your car. A staff member will call you to complete the check-in process, and a clinical staff person will let you know when to come in to the office.

***Please do not bring your child to the office for a well visit if your child also has a fever or respiratory symptoms. Please call the office to reschedule and discuss the symptoms with one of our triage nurses.

We are trying our best to social distance... but being in a medical office makes it hard, so we are wearing or personal protective equipment!

COVID-19 UPDATE (3/23/20) for our HPA patients and families:

In order to keep our patients and staff as safe and healthy as possible, we have instituted the following changes to our scheduling protocols. Please note that the situation is fluid and could change on a daily basis:

1. In our Holyoke office, we are continuing to move all well visits to the mornings and seeing only respiratory or fever visits in the afternoons.

2. In our South Hadley office, we are only seeing well visits and sick visits that do not involve cough or fever.

3. We are suspending Sunday in-person office visits, though we will still have nurse triage available at all times. We will still be open 8am - 1pm on Saturdays for in-person visits.

4. We are continuing to switch appropriate visits over to virtual telehealth visits in order to eliminate the need for as many in-person visits as possible. We are unable to perform virtual visits for well visits at this time, but we are hopeful that we will have this capability soon.

5. We have started a new check-in process for both offices to eliminate the need to wait in our waiting rooms.

COVID-19 Update (3/20/20)

Our staff, including Ashley and Amanda, are working hard to make it possible for you to have an appointment with your provider via video rather than being seen in-person. Holyoke Pediatrics is in the process of rolling out telehealth visits, eliminating the need for you to be seen in the office and minimizing exposures to you, your child, and our staff. We are early in this process, but we hope to start converting appropriate office visits to video visits next week. In preparation for these telemedicine visits, here are two things that you can do now:

1. Make sure that you are signed up for our patient portal, called MyChart. If you are not already signed up, you can either call our office at 413-536-2393 (option #3) during regular business hours or email us at [email protected] We'll help you to get signed up.

2. Download the ZOOM app from your app store. You will need this app for the video portion of your visit.

Stay tuned here for more information as it becomes available. If you have an appointment already booked for next week, our staff may contact you soon to see if you'd like to convert this visit to a video visit.

COVID-19 UPDATE (3/19/20) for our HPA patients and families:

***In our Holyoke office, we are continuing to move all well visits to the mornings and seeing only respiratory or fever visits in the afternoons in order to separate well and sick patients, thereby minimizing exposures.

***In our South Hadley office, we are only seeing well visits and sick visits that do not involve cough or fever.

***Please do not bring your child to the office for a well visit if your child also has a fever or respiratory symptoms. Please call the office to reschedule and discuss the symptoms with one of our triage nurses.

***We continue to work on implementing telehealth so that perhaps simple visits can be done from the comfort of your home. This is still a work in progress and in testing phase, but we will let you know here when we have that capability.

***We have started with a new check-in process to lessen any exposure to our families in the Holyoke office. When you arrive in Holyoke, you will see a phone number posted on the front door. Please TEXT that number that you have arrived and return to your car.  A staff member will call you to complete the check-in process, and a clinical staff person will let you know when to come in to the office.

At this time, HPA is unable to test for Covid-19. We hope that we will be able to do a test similar to the way we test for flu but we do not know when that test will become available to us. We will be following the MA Department of Public Health guidelines on who should be tested.

Stay safe, keep your social distance, and please wash those hands!

To our HPA patient and families:

As many of you already know, the new Coronavirus/Covid-19, was officially declared a pandemic this week. We would like our patients and families to know about HPA’s preparations for a coronavirus outbreak in our community. Coronaviruses have been around for a long time and usually cause common cold and flu-like symptoms. Illness with this new coronavirus can be more serious than other viruses. The good news is that so far in children, Covid-19 has caused mostly mild symptoms. HPA has a team of physicians, nurses and staff who frequently monitor and discuss the Covid-19 situation. We are in close contact with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Our office has put into place the following changes to ensure your visit is as safe as possible so that we can take the best care of those patients who need medical attention:  **If you call our office for advice on your sick child, you will be asked a few screening questions related to Covid-19.  **If your child has a upcoming routine appointment and is sick on the day of the appointment, please re-schedule the appointment.  **We are also limiting the number of people coming with a child for an appointment to one adult only.  **Please keep siblings who are not being seen that day at home.  **While we are always available to see your sick children, we may recommend that you stay home with your child who does not need medical attention. What we know currently is that children with Covid-19 infection are not getting very sick and can be cared for at home most of the time.

Again, we think children infected with this new virus will likely be able to be treated at home in the same way that you currently treat children with fever and cold symptoms. It is very important to keep your sick children at home until they are feeling better.
