Dr. Drew grew up in the tiny town, population 1200, of Borrego Springs, CA. He traveled east to Princeton University, where he graduated with a bachelor of arts in Biology. After graduation, he worked in public relations for medical and pharmaceutical companies. He was part of the team that first used celebrities (Shirley Jones and Mickey Mantle) to market pharmaceutical products. After four years in the corporate world, he decided it was time to go to medical school. Although this was a circuitous route to medicine, Dr. Drew had known since the age of five that he wanted to be a physician, based on his experiences as a patient with a chronic neuromuscular disease.
He graduated from medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and then went on to complete a pediatric residency and chief residency at Montefiore Medical Center. He then moved to St. Louis, Missouri as a National Health Service Corps. scholar and worked at a community health center. After adopting his son, he moved to Tucson, Arizona to be closer to family, and he worked in academic pediatrics before returning to his first love of general pediatrics at a community health center. He then moved back to St. Louis to work as a pediatric hospitalist but soon realized he preferred general pediatrics and returned to El Rio Community Health Center in Tucson. He was excited to move to Western Massachusetts in 2021 and joined HPA in 2024.
Dr. Drew loves pediatrics. He has special interests in caring for youth with chronic, complex medical conditions; LGBTQ+ youth and the children of LGBTQ+ parents; and helping families navigate the complexities of school systems for youth with special needs. He fondly remembers the chairman of the pediatrics department at Montefiore saying “pediatrics is where we help people reach their potential” and tries to live up to this task. Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Drew is credentialed at Baystate Children’s Hospital and is an adjunct staff member at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In his spare time, he loves caring for his two dogs, four goats and 19 chickens. He enjoys cooking for others, especially his husband, son and mother. After a childhood and much of his adulthood in the southwest, Dr. Drew’s favorite things in western Massachusetts are all the green plants and having four distinct seasons.
Dr. Drew sees patients 4 days a week in our Holyoke office. He is excited to be back in offices where he can speak Spanish with patients and their families.
