Board Certified Pediatrician
Joined HPA: 2007
Residency: Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, Geisinger Medical Center
Medical School: Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Undergrad: Georgetown University
Dr. Chien grew up in northeast Pennsylvania. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Georgetown University. During her college years she worked in a genetics lab at Georgetown University Hospital. Not sure whether she wanted to study genetics or medicine, she moved to Philadelphia after graduation and took a job as a genetics research assistant at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She also volunteered in the inpatient unit @ CHOP, an experience that had great influence in her decision to choose a career in medicine. Following medical school and pediatric residency training, Dr. Chien worked as a neonatal intensive care hospitalist caring for premature babies, but she missed practicing primary care pediatrics and moved to the Pioneer Valley to join HPA in 2007.
Dr. Chien loves taking care of babies and toddlers. She is a firm believer in the power of vaccinations to prevent disease and save lives. She chose pediatrics because she truly enjoys being part of her patients’ lives from the moment they enter this world as newborns to the day they become full-fledged adults. Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Chien is credentialed at Baystate Children’s Hospital and is an adjunct staff member at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is also the school physician for the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School.
In her spare time, Dr. Chien enjoys working in her garden, cooking and hunting for seashells with her daughter at the beach. She aspires to be a true foodie and loves trying new restaurants, reading food magazines and watching foodie movies. Her favorite part about living in New England is maple sugar shack season.
Dr. Chien works 3 days per week in our South Hadley office.
