Dr. Brooks grew up in the Washington DC area and has lived in the Pioneer Valley for over 30 years. She moved to the area when her husband took a job at the University of Massachusetts. Looking at the local pediatric opportunities, she was attracted to the diverse patient population and committed professionals at Holyoke Pediatrics. In 1984 she joined HPA as the fifth partner and first female pediatrician in the group.
Dr. Brooks decided to become a pediatrician after working as a Schweitzer Fellow in Lambarene, Gabon in West Africa. She loves the “wholism” of general pediatrics and enjoys the privilege of helping families care for their children. She enjoys working with children of different ages and varied family backgrounds. She has especially enjoyed seeing the children of her former patients.
Dr. Brooks went back to school mid career and got a Masters in Public Health to broaden her perspective and learn some skills of population health. At HPA she serves as the Quality Director and is responsible for setting up systems to follow national guidelines for well child care and the management of common chronic diseases of childhood, including asthma, ADHD and obesity. She is working with a team at HPA and a team from Mt. Tom Center for Mental Health to offer integrated behavioral health services.
Dr. Brooks has two adult children. In her free time she loves travel, exercise, and cooking. She plays on several tennis teams and enjoys hiking, yoga, and gardening. She is an adventurous cook. Some of her favorite travel destinations have included Iceland, the Sinai desert, India, the American Southwest and New York City.
Dr. Brooks is not currently accepting new patients. She sees patients two afternoons a week in our South Hadley office.
