New Flu Vaccine is Here!

The Massachusetts Immunization Program has started shipping flu vaccine to our offices, and we have begun administering the vaccine to children being seen for both well and acute care visits. We have both injectable and intranasal flu vaccine available at this time. The vaccine being used this year is the same as the one used during the last flu season, but all children 6 months of age and older need to be re-immunized for the coming flu season. We of course want to make particular efforts to immunize our high risk children, including those with asthma, diabetes, heart disease or a history of prematurity, but all children over 6 months should receive the vaccine.

Families with children younger than 6 months of age should make sure that other children and adults in the household are immunized, which will help minimize the risk to these younger infants.
