What Do I Need to Know?

The H1N1 flu virus has symptoms similar to seasonal flu:

body aches, chills, cough, fatigue, fever, headache, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, diarrhea and vomiting

Most children with either H1N1 or seasonal flu do not need specific treatment for the virus and do not need to be seen for medical care.   They can be made to feel more comfortable by encouraging rest, fluids, and acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever and achiness. The illness usually lasts about 4 to 7 days.

If your child has flu-like symptoms, please keep your child
at home until your child experiences at least 24 hours fever-free without fever reducing medicine
.

During this flu season our local schools have agreed that parental notes will suffice and doctors' notes are not needed to excuse flu related absences.
