Electronic Medical Records

We are currently upgrading our medical records from a paper system to a more sophisticated system known as Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Your physician and nurse practitioners' orders, such as referrals, prescriptions, and lab requests will now be electronically communicated. Instead of continuously filing, retrieving and thumbing through your paper chart, our staff will be utilizing a hand-held device the size of a few sheets of paper, putting all of your medical information at our fingertips.

We are proud to announce that no new paper charts have been created since March 1, 2006. All existing paper charts will still be available to us for reference but all significant medial information (demographic information and a summary of your medical history and treatment) will be converted to the EMR. All patient information not entered electronically is scanned into your electronic medical record. In this manner, our medical staff will still be able to view and compare you current vital signs on test results with those documented during previous office visits.

Your electronic medical record is also much more secure than the paper record. A built-in security system ensures that only those providers requiring access to your medical record can view it.

HHC Relationship

HPA physicians were involved in the founding of the Holyoke Health Center, and our physicians continue to work there today. We are proud of our connection to the HHC!

Lactation Counseling

Our practice follows the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) by advocating that breastfeeding is the "optimal form of nutrition for infants," including premature and sick infants. A certified Lactation Consultant is available on-site for nursing mothers to help them achieve success at breastfeeding and to answer any questions they may have. Nutritional Counseling

For patients in need of nutritional counseling, HPA provides two nutritionists at our Holyoke office. Appointments with the nutritionist may be scheduled by calling (413) 536-2393 extension 153 or 154.

Behavioral Health

HPA provides on-site behavioral health services for children and adolescents at the South Hadley office. A behavioral health specialist is available by appointment and referral from your primary care provider.

Reach Out and Read

Reach Out and Read is an early literacy program founded in 1997 as a joint project with the Holyoke Public Library. The goal of the program is to improve literacy among children in Holyoke and the surrounding communities by reaching them in the preschool years. We provide parents with the information, books and support they need to make reading part of their children's daily lives.

On-Site Laboratory

Our main laboratory is located in the Holyoke office and is convenient for both patients and parents. It is staffed with ASCP certified medical technologists and phlebotomists who are trained and experienced in treating children. We offer same day lead testing, instrumentation geared to the pediatric population, and quick and accurate test results. The lab staff is famous for their decorating abilities and activities appropriate for children, having been featured in the Springfield Union News. The lab is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Please call (413) 536-2393 to schedule an appointment. Our South Hadley office also provides phlebotomy services on a limited basis.
