History of HPA
Holyoke Pediatric Associates (HPA) is a group of fourteen board-certified pediatricians, five certified nurse practitioners, and over fifty clinical lab clerical, and nutritionist support personnel. HPA has two office locations, Holyoke and South Hadley, MA. The practice was originally formed in 1970 when four solo pediatricians, Robert Abrams, Roland Stebbins, Ralph Levin-Epstein and Henry Burkhardt got together and shared space in Holyoke to provide day, night and weekend coverage. In the ensuing twenty years the practice has grown and HPA has expanded its area of coverage by opening an office in South Hadley. The Holyoke office moved to a larger facility in 1997.
HPA is open 365 days a year, including all weekday nights and weekend days. All of our pediatricians are on staff at Holyoke Hospital and Baystate Medical Center. We provide services for over 60,000 children a year from over 40 surrounding communities. Additionally, we have a state-approved laboratory at the Holyoke office, which draws blood and performs many of the required tests.
HPA's pediatricians are very involved in the communities they serve. In addition to the Reach Out and Read program, the founding physicians helped create the Holyoke Health Center twenty-five years ago, and continue to provide pediatric care there to this day. Holyoke Pediatrics was also instrumental in starting a Teen Clinic in the Holyoke Public School System.
